 On Friday 31st October, Yule Brook College had their first athletics carnival since as long as anyone at the school can remember! It took place at Langford Athletics Complex and included all year 8’s and 9’s as well as some year 10 helpers. Each advisory group in year 8 and 9 were assigned a colour for the day: Mr Hill was green, Mr Marks was red, Mrs Reeves was white, Miss Bennett was yellow and Mr Bottomley was blue. On the day, the advisory groups competed in High Jump, Discus, Triple Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and the 800 metres during the morning session. The 100m sprint, 60m hurdles and the relays were run in the afternoon session. The highlight of the day was the teachers relay with a year 8, 9 and 10 team as well as a special year 10 student team. The students won with their youthful legs while a number of staff failed to complete their section of the race with excuses such as pulled hamstrings, falling over and the old pulled heart muscle!! Results of the day were as follows: Year 8 girls Runner-Up: Dorinda Anderson 145 points (Bennett) Champion: Kyliesha Woods 151 points (Hill)  Year 8 boysRunner-Up: Dwayn Bolton 140 points (Bottomley) Champion: Dennis Ward 145 points (Bottomley) Year 8 Champion Advisory: Bottomley!! 640 points 2nd Place: Hill 3rd Place: Marks 4th Place: Bennett 5th Place: Reeves |

High Achievement Award
The 2007 Dare to Lead Excellence in Leadership in Indigenous Education Awards were announced by the Hon. Julia Gillard, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, at a ceremony in Parliament House, Canberra on 14 March 2008.
YBC showed "...significant improvements in school enrolments and graduation rates plus a reduction in suspension rates over the past five years. There is evidence that both the student and community voice within the school is strong."
