We currently have approximately 60% of our year group participating in our Internship program. This requires students to work in the adult world in order to understand more about their classroom learning. This issue of the TGIF features two Star Performers – Sineath Nath and Mashita Mohammad Effendi. Sineath and Mashita are demonstrating to their classmates that they can mix it with older students by attending different universities in Perth as a part of their learning plans.
Sineath Nath Sineath chose primary school teaching as her focus for her Semester 2 Individual learning plan (ILP). She started her internship with Mrs Leech at Maddington Primary school in a year 1/2 class. During her internship she became interested in researching what makes an effective teacher and conversely what make an ineffective teacher. She was invited to present her research at a student teacher tutorial at Curtin University. She presented her research with a PowerPoint and a short role play she wrote, acted and edited, to two groups of 3rd year education students. The students gave her warm and cool feedback and gave suggestions about how she could improve and develop her work. Some of the comments from the university students included “…. I am impressed by your confidence and the detail of your research…” Thanks to University Lecturer Leith Hogan for inviting Sineath to present at the University.Mashita Mohammad Effendi
Mashita recently attended a 4 hour practical science lab at the University. There she was given a background to a case involving the death of a man in 2002. There was a suspicion that his wife may have murdered him. Mashita had to use chemistry to determine if poisons were involved in the man’s death. This required her to observe and participate in a hands on science lab with the university students. Mashita mixed different types of chemicals and used different lab machines in order to help determine the cause of death.
Mashita will also attend regular lectures at the university on Mondays with her lab work taking place on Tuesdays. |
